Midian Lights a Candle

Hello One And All,

My name is Midian and I am a Masonic Pagan. I’ve been a Mason (at the time of this post) for about 2.5 years. I will admit that I was reluctant at first because I believed that it was a Christian organization; boy was I wrong. My grandfather was a Mason, and now when I look back, now I understand why he was so accepting of other religions. Now I know, it was because Masonic law states that all religions are to be regarded as equals because the whole point is that all Mason’s must ‘believe in something other than this world’; a supreme being and/or an afterlife. My Masonic mentor is one of the most flexible minded men I’ve met and I can see now why he volunteered to be my guide and teacher; I owe him much. Nonetheless, I wanted to post something since I’m the only other Pagan Mason in the Lodge besides Mark (the creator of this blog). Moving along….

Indeed this will be a great opportunity for anyone who’s a Pagan but believes that a Pagan isn’t what Masonry is looking for. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Mason’s are always looking for good men; Pagan’s easily fall into that category. Note that there are few Pagan’s in Freemasonry; however this is not due to Mason’s rejecting Paganism or the different flavors which fall under the Pagan banner. It’s my belief that most Pagan’s don’t feel comfortable around Christians; for good reason. But from my experiences thus far in the Brotherhood, I’ve been welcomed with open arms from every Mason I’ve come in contact with. As a matter of fact, I’ve been encouraged to seek my Pagan heritage and to feel invited to use all Masonic resources possible to aid in my historical & motivational teachings.

It’s my hope that more Pagan’s will consider giving back to their communities what Pagan society can offer. When looking at Masonic values and the values instilled from Pagan gatherings, there are so many parallels that it’s actually amazing to me that there aren’t more Pagan’s attending Lodge. I seek to change this if possible. The Oaken Grove is still alive in my spirit and I believe that more Druids need to consider taking the obligations of a Masonic Lodge; I know that my connection to the Earth has been strengthened and my inner balance has been encouraged by becoming a Mason. I hope more will consider Masonic alignment.

That’s all for now, will be looking forward to finding more Pagan’s who are interested and more Mason’s to support this movement.

A Brief Introduction

Well if I'm going to be taking the time to write this thing, I figure I'd better lay out some of the basic facts; who I am, what I do, why I'm doing it, what I hope to accomplish. Something of an off-the-cuff mission statement. We'll start with the basics?

Opening Statements

I get the impression, before I've committed a single word to the screen, that I'm going to be getting in way over my head, and that this entire endeavor is going to turn out to be more difficult and taxing than I'm giving it credit for. But at least I know this much going in, and maybe that'll be some measure of help.

My goal is to create a blog discussing Paganism and Freemasonry. Why would I want to do this? Because I am both a Pagan and a Freemason, and I know of very few other like myself. My hope is that by starting this blog, posting to it, and reaching out to others, I'll be able to create a place for like-minded individuals to discuss relevant issues, ask questions, or just find out that they're not the only one of their kind.

I'll be putting up a post in the near future that's a little bit about myself and my own background. I'm not entirely certain of where we're going to go from there, but with any luck I'll find inspiration along the way. Until then.
